A time when the architecture of nature shows itself in stark contrast to the other seasons when it is busy bustling with growth and color and movement.
It is a season of deep stillness and quiet.
Our days of light grow shorter and then longer again as the solstice passes and the sunlight is warm in the hollows where it is coldest at night. Grey skies alternate with bright blue skies and the sun makes the snowy earth sparkle.
Somewhere under the blanket of snow the life of little things goes on unnoticed by our eyes. We can see their trails so we know they are there but they keep their secrets well.
It is a wondrous season.
